Great definition of leadership. I wish the politicians understood that distinction between cranks and real leaders.
But there's other nuggets of wisdom in this story. My favorite?
When the professor said. “Your profound investigative skills have led to the discovery that politicians may give more attention to their major campaign contributors than to people who support their opponents. I’m sorry to report that my barber has also known this for years. I’m afraid that we can’t give you a Ph.D. for this level of insight." In other words Mr. PhD candidate, stop acting so "flipping" impressed with your brilliance. It's pretty ordinary.

Do the authors discuss he impact of litigation (consumer lawsuits) in India and China? Is product safety a minefield for manufacturers there? I remember looking at bamboo scaffolding in Hong Kong and wondering how their system works.

Great points.
I read recently that 10% of all shares are held by funds that hold them for an average of 60 days and 85% of equities are at funds that hold stocks an average of 10 months. If true these kinds of shareholders redefine the meaning of "short-term view."

Hi Bill
this is precisely what DukeCE is all about, Gil and the other 130 folk around the world find the client, design a creative solution to their problems, then find appropriate deliverers anywhere in the world, whilst managing a quality control system on behalf of the client.
Being No.1 for four years in the F.T. rankings suggests it works!
